I was on my way to work the other day and my truck just died.  When I came to a stop, I tried cranking, but it would turn over, just not start up.  I have been told to check a module (electronics maybe?).  Anything else I can look at, or any other post someone can refer me to?

Also, is there anywhere I can see an image/diagram of this engine online?

  thanks

ok, I have found what I think is the module I am looking for.  Is there a way to determine if it is bad or not?

It is inside the distributor, well, there is a module inside the distributor, i assume that is what he was referring to.  He mentioned his going out before and his was inside there.

Before you start throwing parts at this thing, you need to do a little diagnoses first. Just because an ign module went on one vehicle, doesn't mean that is what is wrong with you vehicle.

start with the basics.....is there spark?...fuel?....compression?.....air?

I agree with the other person, do some tests before you replace anything.

You can remove a plug-boot, stick a known good plug in the boot, lay metal part of plug on engine ground, metal part of engine. Have a helper crank the engine, watch for spark at the tip of the plug. If you have good spark everywhere, you move on to another system.

My information shows, you have hvs distributor. I don't believe there is an ignition module in the distributor, if that is what your talking about? You may have a coil driver module mounted next to the coil. The first thing to do, is check for spark, go from there.

I wasn't going to just start replacing parts, I do not have enough money for that.  I was loking at an idea given to me by someone that had this problem before.  Was just laying out some an idea in hopes soemone else on here may have had that problem.  There is fuel, from pump turning on till at least the (release valve?) that sits just behind engine.  I will try the plug out a little later on.

I do not have a vast majority of knowledge, or much at all when it comes to engines, so when it comes to deeper issues, I am stranded.

thanks for the help guys
