selina -> z28 motor 73 car-help (1/30/2008 7:19:26 AM)

I am interested in buying a z28 show car.  The guy tell me it is the original motor, it is a big block engine it looks like it is original ,the motor fits like a glove. The car sat in a show room in CA for 9 years. thinks the motor was a special order. I am told it should have a small block, but this was a special order.  I cannot find the numbers on the motor to match up.  The car is 42,000.  It is beautiful!  THE VIN NUMBER IS 1Q87T3N181312. I Am told this tells all.  All inside is original. this is all new to me, not even sure if I am in the right place to get help  Please help, this is my 1st buy, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Well there should be a ENGINE VIN stamped on either the passanger side deck protruding forward or above the timing cover. I believe this area is smaller than the smallblocks engine VIN area so it might be a little tougher to spot. As for casting numbers look at the transmission flange(drivers side) on the rear of the block also a date code might be present on the right side of the transmission flange.

Well according to this site (see below) if you decode the vin number it is a 73 super coupe camaro that should have a 350ci 245hp engine.  but I am not sure wheather or not that year was offered with a big block.

Hi selina!   This is only my opinion or advice to you. I think you can ask for an automotive assistant in your nearest place so that he can help you with your problem. Since you are new in the automotive world you can read some auto topics like automotive geek for you to get information about cars and car parts.

Never heard of a 2nd gen camaro having a big block.  Was it some special car like a baldwin-motion or something like that?  They were bought by from the factory and customized by the dealer/custom shop.  Usually upfitted with a big block.  Is there any stickers on the inner fender well or on the firewall saying something like that?  There might be something on the front frame rail as well.

If you don't mind me asking, what price are they asking for the camaro?
