Hello over there, I am from Germany ( living near Giessen, northern Frankfurt ), now proud to be new member of this great Chev forum. Aged 41 and selling / exporting Road Construction Equipment worldwide, also dealing with U.S. companies. Thx to join your round ! My question : is it better to order the 2008 Silverado 2500 HD Duramax Crew Cab Std bed WITH Z 71 or without Z 71 package ? What is the difference to basic 4x4 ? I can import a full stuffed LTZ immediately from the States, but it doesnt have the Z71 package. Any comments welcome, thx. The Silverado should be my new company car.. My current one is BMW 530 Diesel Station wagon, I ordered already a 2008 X5 3.0 SD, but delivery time was extended now about further 4 (!) months. It was ordered begin of October 2007 (!! ) and shall come now in June, July.. I am tired about the arrogant behavior from BMW, not to tell you about the German prices for it ( $ 125,000.-- )....... Going to cancel the contract. have a nice day !

The Z71 package is a different suspension for offroad use. If you are going to working or playing offroad with your truck, it will serve you better.

I've always had the Z-71 since 1992, but, I couldn't get the Z71 on my 2003 because it wasn't an option with quadra steer. Did get it again on the 2007 and it handles better then the standard.

Thanks a lot guys, appreciate your infos. Appreciate your assistance I learned today that on the 2500 HD the LTZ trim includes the - Z85 "HD handling / trailering suspension package" (which contents still the 46 mm piston shocks and 34 mm front stabilizer bar) and - NZZ skid plates package, and - HD rear automatic locking differential so all 3 positions for free included in LTZ trim. Z 71 package exactly contents this 3 positions. Right ? So to order the Z 71 package is only relevant to the LT trims and 1500 Silverado ?!?! Plus to get the nice Z badges.. Am I right, so far ? Does anyone know where to get the genuine 2008 Z 71 badges / decals ?? I need the Z´s as Z is my nick name ;-)

skip the Z71 the regular 4x4 is just fine and if you need serious off road capabilities you will probably want to do an aftermarket suspension with a slight lift since the silverado sits somewhat low for offroading

"Judge Z" , The Chevy Website details the suspension packages like this: (Z85) Suspension Package, Handling/Trailering, heavy-duty, includes - 46 mm piston monotube shocks
- 34mm front stabilizer bar
(Z71) Suspension Package, Off-Road, includes - 1.81" (46 mm) shocks
- off-road jounce bumpers
- 36mm front stabilizer bar
- (G80) heavy-duty automatic locking rear differential
- (NZZ) skid plate package
- Z71 decals on rear quarters
In LTZ trim, the Z85 option only costs $275, and you get the "Z" badge. But the LTZ has a letter "Z" in the badging also.

thx @ all for quick info and support, guess I will go now for the LTZ Crew Cab StdBed 4x4 w i t h Z71 package, full stuffed (excluding Navi, US version does not work in Europe). I like the "Z" stickers anyway.. Delivery time from the States should be some 6 - 8 weeks from date of order. It will be my company car, but then the second Chevy in my garage, in March comes my ´08 Vette convertible - no "Z"06 ;-) Both in Black. Another question is, how do you guys load and unload motorcycles on your trucks ?
