its been running good since i've had it. i was running out of gas and could tell it was losing power. i filled up and then i went to start it, it started but then it just deid. there was white smoke coming out of the tail pipe. looked at the spark plugs and they were covered in gas. changed the fuel filter also. new cap and rotor and spark plugs. its getting eoungh spark but it won't fire. when trying to start it the engine is getting flooded everytime i try to start it. gas is just pouring in to the engine.
any ideas would help. i'm puzzled as to why its doing this.

are you sure it is gas on the plugs?.....White smoke often is a tell tale of burning coolant. Hold the wet plug up to a lighter....see if it lights on fire.

another thing that could be a problem is that you could have bent a rod. nefore i got my new 77 blazer i had an 84 and it became a smoker after it sprang a leak and ran four quarts low on oil. also if your throttle is sticking, check the linkage on the carburetor. my 84 used to do that all the time. it usually helps to make the throttle longer in the winter because it makes it harder to flood the engine when you are trying to start it up. one thing i can suggest if you have the money is to buy a new crate motor with an electric choke and you won't have to worry about this problem.

Do you know if you have a carburetor or is it a Throttle Body injection??  If it's a TB, you could have a computer issue.  I agree with shawnvw though.  You should check to be sure that it is gas on your plugs.
