My wife has a 2004 Silverado 2500 which she uses for hauling horses.  We recently went to our local Chevy dealer to get a new Silverado 2500 and were excited about being able to get a truck with both side airbags and active handling which are both offerd on the 2008 Silverado 1500.  We were suprised, however, to find out that neither side airbags nor active handling were being offered on 2500's and 3500's.

I cannot for the life of me understand why these options are not available.  You can certainly be T-boned on a 2500 as well as anything else.

Does anyone understand why these options are not being offered?  Is it the usual lack of foresight from GM or is there a technical reason that someone can think of.  Lots of Big SUV's etc. out there which can do you in if you get t-boned.

Thanks in advance?
