so how about the shift kits? do they actually help the transmission last longer? i have a 2002 silverado 1500 that drives beautifully, but i'd love a little bit more acceleration... especially if it keeps it in better shape as well.

does anyone know which company is the best? i'm really only finding good information about the B&M.

I installed a Transgo shift kit in my 80E when I rebuilt it.
It has an overpressure valve to stop you accientally snapping the housing in half (amonst other things).
Most people I know of use the Transgo kit.
Best thing you can do to extend the life of any trans is install a cooler if you don't already have one.

I had my TH350 rebuilt by a guy who has building transmissions for over 30 years and he suggested the Transgo kit with an external transmission cooler. My tranny is now setup for over 500hp and the kickdown is amazing compared to stock (even though me engine was sluggish at the time). I need to be careful driving it in the rain because if it kicks down hard enough the back tires will slide-out even with an open rear the one tire will slide which isnt fun. I drive a brand new 08 chevy truck at work with the 6.0 engine and those trannys are built tough and at kickdown that tranny left me spinning around at 65mph on the highway in the rain.

And also, I heard of B&M kits (stage 2?) snapping output shafts.

Do a search for TCI.They have tons of rebuild interesting parts.
