ehhget -> RE: K&N vs The other guys (2/9/2008 10:47:32 PM)

i put a k&n on mine and did notice a slight throttle response improvement but i admit i think a box would insulate the air better than the half box with a gasket to seal on your hood like the k&n does, i might do a little more research if i was going to do it over again but i cant say i am dissapointed with what i have

Thats the same kind I had on my last truck, and the point I was trying to make earlier about S&B and Volant being better. Its because their unit is completly sealed from the engine compartment. Either way you go, their all better than stock. How much of a diffrence it makes having a sealed unit over one thats open and just has a gasket to the hood, who knows.

bgkykingpin -> RE: K&N vs The other guys (2/25/2008 6:32:19 AM)

Installed my S&B Intake and notice some hp gains, but gas mileage still the same. Im thinking of making the opening bigger where the actual fresh air is taken in the body of my truck, all in all i cant tell a big difference from my stock intake with a K&N filter. Especially not 200$ worth of difference lol. My advice would be save your money keep stock intake buy an aftermarket filter, at least on my model truck(2000 New Body).

bgkykingpin -> RE: K&N vs The other guys (2/25/2008 6:37:30 AM)

BTW guys i also thought that the box would be completely sealed from using air under the hood, but the S&B is just a box with a glass plate. It still draws air from under the hood, probably more than from actual "fresh air". The box is not even remotely air tight in fact there is on big hole in the side and back, so really the onlything u are gaining by using the "Box" over just a filter is probably looks.

It depends on the model of vehicle you are installing it in, the one I installed in my '95 the box is solid, the only hole is where it gets air from the fender.

edited post... well i wanted to see results of the SB from a 3rd party review.. but i just checked their site, and they dont make one for the V6 in my silverado?
i know K&N does... AFE doesnt seem to either.
is that right? or am i missing it somewhere?

Fireguy8 -> RE: K&N vs The other guys (3/6/2008 7:26:03 AM)

I agree with Northey87 as with the S&B in my case NBS 07 the only opening is at the fender where it draws cold air at the stock location. My new exhaust arrived yesterday and I am about to go out and install it.
