Hi, the bottom end (Small block my dad says its called) on my truck has crapped out so me and my father are looking at rebuilding my 91 350 (5.7L) engine into a 383 stroker.. I need to know what parts are on the bottom end of the truck so I can price out high performance parts for it. (I work at a partstore and he's been a mechanic for 34 years, he's just too busy during the day to answer my questions about whats involved and I'd like to start pricing it out today.) Any help given would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Steve

hi ok here it is. unless your question is already answered. you will need a chevy 400 crankshaft, you will need new rods and pistons for the 383 stroker, generally you can order a 383 stroker kit with pistons, crank, rods, and so forth. then you will need some machine work, just take your old block down to your local machine shop, THAT IS TRUSTWORTHY AND KNOWN GOOD, tell them what you want and you should be good to go, i would also recommend a high volume water pump, the 383 is known for running a little warm, or at least a mechanical fan with an electrical fan, just an idea

I need to know what parts are on the bottom end of the truck so I can price out high performance parts for it. (I work at a partstore and he''s been a mechanic for 34 years, he''s just too busy during the day to answer my questions about whats involved and I''d like to start pricing it out today.) Any help given would be greatly appreciated Thanks, Steve Steve-Do you see the thread titled "first 350 build" in the is section??.It''s 4 pages about a 383.The internal balanced rotating assemblies are a better buy for you over the long run over the cheaper external ones.6" rod versions of a rotating assemblies will compound the "effect" of a stroker. The only 383''s that had issues with running hotter where when a 400 block was used with steam holes and spacer bearings with a 350 crank was in use.Of course that isn''t the case here.Make sure you have a good 350 block thru pressure testing and mag''ing it at your machine shop. As I said-read the first 350 build thread in this section.Lots of stuff was covered there.
