Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum, but am already finding lots of great info.
I'm thinking of getting a chevy truck and was just wondering what others have experienced with the 5.7L Vortec. Our family has had the older TBI 5.7L on our Blazer and truck and loved it, but we haven't had a Vortec to compare with.
Those of you who have owned both...any differences in reliability? Any years to avoid?
Thanks!

I've personally owned c1500's with each motor. Both are of the best GM has ever made in my opinion.  I'd still be driving my 95 Silverado with a 5.7 TBI but it was stolen a year ago.  It was in showroom condition with  115,000 miles. I did nothing special, only scheduled maintainence. I never had a surprise failure or would not start in the 12 years I owned it.  I replaced it with a 98 c1500 with a 5.7 vortec.  It has 225,000 original miles, and runs perfect. A little more power in the vortec is the only difference i notice.  I also hear it goes a bit longer before needing overhauled.  300,000 + mileage stories outta the vortec are not uncommon.  Wow!
