watts up? i have a 91 camaro rs with a 305 tbi (stock engine) i am having a problem with the vehical overheating.  the radiator overflow fills up and the coolant boils in there for a while once the car is shut off.  i havent noticed any temp problems while driving -the temp gauge is fine; and the electric fan cycles as normal.  i recently replaced the radiator (had a hole in it) and all the hoses as well as the fan relay.  the car overheated prior to me doing all this.  someone told me to swap the stock 192 degree t'stat with a 160 and that should get rid of the problem.  does anyone have any other suggestions that i could take a look at.

Welcome to the forum.  If your new radiator is the correct one, then we can rule that out.  I guess if your temp gauge is indicating normal temp (~190-200), then I'm not sure what the problem is.  It's normal for the radiator to push water into the overflow after shutoff as the engine heat continues to heat the water causing it to expand even though the fan(s) continue to run, the water pump isn't.

Did you purge the system?  If there is too much air in the lines the car will over heat intermitantly as the air wont cool the engine like water (coolant) will.  make sure you get enough air out as you can and replace with more fluid.

definitely changing the thermostat will cool it down alot, i've done it and it works, however if your stuck in traffic the thermostat can only do so much before it heats up, but while moving it stays extremely cool.
