Engine Codes

ottof -> Engine Codes (1/7/2008 6:49:46 PM)

I have a 1996 Z-24. It has had problems starting and the other day it wouldn't start. today I was able to get it started so I drove it to a mechanic and he ran the code checks and came up with the following codes:

P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor
P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor
P0172 Fuel System Too Rich

I replaced the camshaft sensor, but couldn't find the crankshaft sensor. According to my manual it is supposed to be located just above the oil filter.

Question.

Where is the crankshaft sensor located?
If both sensors are bad would that also cause a too rich mixture code? If not, what should I be looking at next?

I replaced the fuel filter about 3 months ago, it was about 99.9 % plugged. That seemed to help until now.

Any info or ideas would be appreciated. I have had this car since brand new and has not had any problems until now. The mileage is 164000 miles

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

The crank sensor should be somewhere around the crank pulley. Look more towards the bottom of the engine, I would say. As far as the 'Fuel System too rich' code, I would replace both of those sensors, have the codes cleared, and then drive it and see if code 0172 comes back. It's a very good possibility the crank sensor and the cam sensor codes kicked the 0172 code. Good luck!

The cam sensor controls the fuel injector timing and the crank sensor controls the spark timing ... so those will cause a fuel too rich fault.
