I am having problems with the fuel used reading on my truck.  I am on my 3rd fill up and all 3 times the fuel used and the amount I pumped have been off.  The first time it was 3 gallons, the second 1 gallon and today it was off by 2 gallons.  The first two times I pumped after the low fuel warning came on.  Today I pumped around the 1/4 tank mark.  If it tells me how much I used, shouldn't it be accurate on what it takes in?  This is a bit frustrating, since I have a habit of filling up when the tank gets low.  I don't want to think there's fuel left when there isn't.  Thanks.

My difference runs in the tenths of a gallon.  Remember it also depends on if your vehicle was level when you filled up, if you filled it by topping off several times after if shut off automatically etc.

It should settle down and be pretty close.  I don't think that it is a literal measurement of gallons used.  I think it is a program that estimates based on perameters.  What exactly they are is unknown to me.

I really don't top-off.  When it stops, it stops.  If they added a feature to tell you how many gallons you used, it should work that way.  Seems pretty easy really.  It is just a reverse reading of the fuel gauge.  If it is a 31 gallon tank, at half way, you should have used 15.5 gallons.
The problem I ran into was the low fuel warning came on and it said I had only used 26.6 gallons.  I figured I had about 5 left.  I went to the station and filled up with well over 29 gallons, meaning I had only about 2 left.  That could have turned out pretty bad.  Thanks for the reply.

The only way to get an accurate comparison is to fill the tank (click, click, click.....) until it is all the way topped and you can't get another drop in the tank.

Z, I understand what you're saying, but by that point, I am already over what the the fuel used says.  What I put in is always more.  If I fill it to the point where it is almost spilling out, I will be even more than the fuel used.
That would make perfect sense if what I pumped was less. I probably should have stated it that way in the original post.
Thanks

Was it that full the last time?

Had 22 in it, thought it was full.  Ran 20 out.  Can now put 24 in.

I'm not sure what you mean.  If I expect to put in 26, it takes 29.

I understand and it won't always be completely accurate but it should be closer than 3 gallons.
There was a software update that addressed similar issues, have the dealer check if there are any updates for your Suburban.
