Hi everyone,

I have a Chevy 454 that was being fed by an electric fuel pump.  I needed to utilize the return line for the fuel tank, which was capped off by the previous owner.  The place for the mechanical fuel pump on the 454 had a plate over it.  When I removed it, there was no fuel pump push rod behind it.  Is it possible to install a push rod without tearing down the engine?

Thanks,
Dave

Folks on the firstgenfirebird site were quick on the draw (this BBC is in a Firebird).  Here's a link to the answer if anyone wants it:

You have to remove the block off plate and under the plate you will see a plug.  You have to remove that plug, install the rod and reinstall the plug then you can mount the fuel pump.  Only on a small block can you install the rod by just removing the block off plate.

Good luck
