bens dad -> spare tire (12/22/2007 3:02:16 AM)

bought a 94 ,  for taking my sons 4 wheeler to his races , it is a 3/4 4x4 cheyenne, with a 350 , it is about as plain jane as you can get , even without a/c, my question, there is a spot for the spare in the interior L-rear corner, the spare is just throwed in the back, along with a jack and a couple of brkts, i know i need a long bolt of some kind and maybe a wing nut, (dont know for sure ) also in front of that also inside is another brkt mount for maybe the jack( again i dont know)of course any diagram showing the spare is long gone , and i dont have any owners manual, i would appreciate any help, i cant stand stuff just throwed around , so i got to get this fixed, thanks

If you go to www.mygmlink.com, you can view/download a copy of the owner's manual for just about everything.

Check with your local salvage yards for the brackets and other parts you don't have.  If you are polite to them and they have a vehicle with the spare mounted, they will probably let you look at how the tire mounts so you can see what parts you need.

It is a long J bolt, about 8 inches long (IIRC) with an odd stamped steel peice that looks like a heavy top-hat shaped cookie cutter. It's held in place with a threaded pipe welded to a bent length of tubing that looks like a giant wing nut. Pretty easy to fab up or find in a wrecking yard.

I found a tire hold-down once in an old Ford Torino that had a similar hook and had a locking retainer. The yard guy just shrugged and said take it, it's not a standard part.

i looked online at the owners manual and i do need the bolt that screws into the side panel and the nut, also the other bracket is for the jack and stuff , looks like there is supposed to be some kind of bag to put the handle and acces. in, looks like there  is actually 2 different bolts for the spare 1 screws in the side with a hook on the end , and then the other bolt hooks to it and then thru the spare etc., but the drawing isnt to clear so if you have any better info please let me know , thanks
