Well I am looking at a 2003 chevrolet Suburban LT, and I am pretty serious about this. But I am just wondering a few things here. Do any of you if there are any common problem areas or special things to look for?
Also do you know how the towing and gvwr ratings compare to a tahoe.
Thanks for your help!
Chris

Consumer reports is a great resource for reliability rating and to se what the problem areas are.

Edmunds.com is also a great resource to find towing and GVWR ratings.  Good Luck

How many miles are on it? What size engine?

Miles  = Tranny - I'll admit I don't know a lot about what is offered in the suburban line up but if it's the 700R4 and you're over 100K miles pay special attention to the tranny when driving. I think the 4L60E and 4L80E are more stout so if it has the one of those you should be good.

Engine = CKPS (Cranks Shaft Position Sensor) failure on 8.1's (were 8.1's available in '03?)

One other thing is to check the 4WD switch if it's 4WD. They lilke to fail intermittently due to cracks in the circuit board. Going over rough terrain will usually cause the lights on the switch to dim or go out completely if the switch is bad. I used to get the "Service 4WD" light when it happened. New switch is required if it's bad.

Other than that I can't think of anything common. I would also check NHTSA web site for recalls and make sure they are all completed, if any.

Good luck and be sure to post pics if/when you do get it.
