OK I need to vent about today's activities, but 1st I must "set-up" the picture. Where I live is in the Mountains and about 40-50 Miles from any "suburban" infrastructure. So my son calls me about 3 weeks ago (he's an Install Manager for Circuit City in Phoenix AZ, I'm in California)He just got done installing a "Hands Free" Cell Phone unit in a Customer Vehicle, and he was RAVING about it.It takes ALOT for my Son to be impressed so I took his word for it.
The Model is a "Parrot 3200".
I called MY local Circuit City Store and the closest store is 45 Miles away,
and a 90 Minute drive. The "Install Manager" is my sons best friend, (Derek). My son says "call Derek and he'll hook you up"!So 2 weeks ago, I call Derek on Wednesday and ask if he's got the "Parrot 3200".
He tells me that he has a TON of them.I said "Great, I'm coming down Saturday to have you install one, should I reserve one"?He again tells me no need to do that.So I go down on Saturday, and there ALL SOLD OUT of EVERY MODEL!Derek tells me that he's sorry and suggests I go on their Website and purchase it online and have it delivered to my House.
That way I'm guaranteed one and he will "hook me up on the install".GREAT!So I ordered one online and got it yesterday.I called Circuit City and was told Derek would be in yesterday, (Friday),
I made an appointment and traveled down the Mountain to find out Derek's NOT there today.I told the kid at the Install Department, what had happened before and that Derek was going to "Hook me up" on the Install. He said "We charge $100.00 for the installation, what do YOU think is fair"?I said "Your Website says $65.00 if I buy it from you, but I didn't".He said "$71.99 is the best I can do".I said OK.The Install was to take 3 hours from start to finish.About an hour later I get a call on my Cell Phone from the Installer, "Eric".He says he needs the "Anti Theft Code" for my GM Delco unit.I don't have that and usually the Installer can call the Dealership and get that information over the phone. But OH NO, not for Roger today. I (the owner) have to Physically DRIVE my Truck to the Dealership and get that information which they have to get by hooking my Truck up to their Computer! The Chevy Dealership across the Freeway (1 mile) wants $135.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Chevy Dealership that's 15 Miles away wants $44.00 or if they don't have to pull my Truck into the Service Bay, they'll do it for FREE!My Installer Eric, says "I talked to the guy in Service and his Name is Don.So I drive over to the Dealership and tell some guy what I want/need.He says"I can't do it today, I have 2 guys out sick".I said "Eric just talked to a Don and he said to bring it down".The guy says, "Dons in our Parts Department and he shouldn't have told you that".So I get into my Truck and by this time I'm FUMING/SHAKING because I'M SO PISSED!I called my installer Eric and told him the situation and also added that I want to reschedule my install appointment and have the unit installed for FREE! He said "No problem I will install it for you next Thursday for FREE"! Then I called the Chevy Dealership up where I live and the Service Manager says,
"Its so quick/Easy to get that Code fir you, Just call me before you drive over and I'll do it for FREE!So Circuit City charges $209.00 for this unit.I bought MINE off of E-Bay for $171.00 Delivered to my door and I was proud that I was saving close to $35.00, but I ended up paying about $40.00 in GAS to go up and down the Mountain 2X, PLUS I'll be going down a 3rd time next week.
Customer Service with people under 30 years old...SUCK!   (thanks for listening) ;)  Roger Daily Thought:
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKYS. NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING, BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

I think I see the genesis of a TV sitcom in this story.

Hope it works out on the third trip.
