NO_VA -> RE: Will Chevy Stick-it-to-Us? (5/3/2008 4:27:15 PM)

the problem is that, IMO, the original camaro's and other muscle cars were never intended to be performance vehicles. they were just middle class sedan's that conveniently had a lot of room for improvement, customization, and other options. Once the fad started catching on, the manufacturers started offering it as a performance car.

the problem now is that they're afraid to piss off consumers. produce a "cheap" camaro and the corvette guys will scoff and never take it seriously no matter how many horses you stuff under the hood. they'll dub it a "cheap econo box" like they do any car that sells for less than 30k. For that reason, they're forced to produce a performance car that has expensive options comparable to the Corvette, potentially cannabilizing its sales.

What they should do is just offer the Camaro like they did back in the day. powerful, but not ridiculous. Simple and Affordable, but with lots of room for improvement. People can then afford a new Camaro, and the muscle car days will return with at home enthusiasts customizing to fit their needs and tastes.
