Hi all, I am re-building a 4L60 transmission. I have up-graded the 3-4 clutch with exra thinner steel and extra friction plates. However, in the re-build manual, the following is stated:

"ATSG recommends that you remove and discard the 3-4 load release spring assemblies, all models, for a much improved 2-3 shift and better 3-4 clutch durability.
"The number 44 hole in the spacer plate must be drilled out to .09" at the same time, even if the hole is not there"

However, in a leaflet sent with the transmission kit (Transgo leaflet), it sates that:

"3-4 Clutch Durability, 3-4 Return Springs. 87up 700's and all 4L60E's NEED these return spings. These springs should always be used with the original thickness bottom and top pressure plate and snap ring".

As I have fitted the 3-4 powerpack which uses additional friction and thinner steel plates, do I need to re-fit the "Clutch Durability Return Springs"?

Could anyone answer the above? All answers appreciated.

Regards

Keith
