My daughter owns a 2000 Cavalier and ( I know these are notorious ) the plastic cowling just inside the windshield is cracked in numerous places.  Should I just go to the dealer and order a new one? Does anyone know how much these cost???

Since the part is the entire back side of the dash, the part costs $350 + plus labor, with no guarantees of not cracking again. Mine is cracked all the way through in 3 places. If it gets much worse I will just get a custom dash cover.

Since this obviously is a manufacturer defect,  why doesn't Chevy
help out the car owners as well as these potential new buyers.  GM
is so afraid that Toyota is gonna be #1 in the USA

My car only had 34K and was about 1 year out of the 3 yr. warranty and the dealer said they would do nothing about it. I will keep this one as long as it runs well....but I will not buy another GM unless they have a major improvement. We had owned a GMC Sonoma and had problems with it too.

Oh well...it still looks good with clear corners, altezza tail lights and tinted windows ;)

How would you guys feel about a hard plastic overlay for your dash. They are made of ABS high heat resistent plastic and are vacum formed from the original dash. They would lay over top of the original dash and would only need to apply some adhesive on the overaly. No unscrewwing or removing the original dash. If interested you can see some examples at www.coverlaymfg.com. Let me know what you think
All dashes come with a lifetime warranty.
