Steering noise - 12/4/2007 9:33:44 AM    timberland73   Posts: 10 Joined: 12/4/2007 Status: offline I'm a noob here.  I have an 04 Impala SS that knocks when turning left and right.  CV boots are fine.  I tried doing a search and didn't really find anything.  Can anyone help please? Post #: 1

It's down by your feet. Kind of a light popping noise when you turn, kind of like cracking your knuckles. (in reply to timberland73) Post #: 2

RE: Steering noise - 12/4/2007 3:16:25 PM    timberland73   Posts: 10 Joined: 12/4/2007 Status: offline That sounds about right.  I called my Chevy store and the service dept said there is a lube kit for it.  But when I talked to the parts dept they said the lube kit is discontinued and I would have to buy the shaft.  But since I too am a dealer, I'll get it at a discounted price.  $87.25.  Does this sound right?  Parts said this new shaft has all the bugs worked out of it.. supposedly. Every couple of oil changes, i have someone turn the steering wheel side to side while i spray grease on the knuckle. Next time i'm going to try John Deere chain and cable lubricant. It foams up when sprayed, and then soaks deep into everything. I think it might work better. (in reply to timberland73) Post #: 6
