I have a 2001 Venture. I've had my share of problems with it and have
done quite a bit of work on it.  The engine and everything else on the
vehicle is still running smoothly.  Yesterday I ran into a transmission
issue, i've never worked on a tranny and don't really know much about them.

For the past week or 2 i've been feeling a very slight, VERY momentary
loss of power while driving. almost felt like it was missing, but the
engine itself didn't seem to be exhibiting any problems.  Yesterday when
starting up the car however, it started making a whirring noise at a
fairly good volume.  15 miles later it wouldn't drive and triggered a
PO742.  I did some research online and found a recommendation to add
some transmission lubricant that it would possibly unstick the TCC if
that was the problem.  I added the lubricant, and although the noise
went away, it still wont stay in gear.

I let it sit for some time again, starting the car starts out with the
noise coming from the Tranny.  While it's making the noise, it will go
into gear and will drive, but only for about 2 minutes.  The noise will
then go away, and it wont go into gear anymore. The engine does not
stall, but acts like nothing happens when shifting into drive or any
other gear...no gear  is engaged.  Shutting down the car for a few
minutes will repeat the pattern.  I can always make it drive, but not
for very far.

I have 130k miles on this car.  I feel like it may be something 'simple'
as it doesnt seem to be a catastrophic mechanical problem, it seems to
be  hydraulic.  Do I need to pull the tranny and replace some solenoids?
or could there be something much more serious and i'd be better off just
replacing the trans all together?
