First,

Thanks for this Awesome site, and to those who contribute to it.

I spoke with my dealer about installing the controls, and he stated that there was a $100 charge per code to purchase them from GM. I have yet to read about anyone paying for them. Is this true?

I should probably have stated it is a 2007 Silverado Classic.

If you are wanting to install a new steering wheel that has the radio controls on an 07 GMT900 product then there is no VCI code required.
These trucks come pre-wired and ready to go you just need a compatible radio, the radio must have the "CAT" button on the far right side and the correct steering wheel and then of course a you need the steering wheel with the controls.

I guess in theory it would be a GMT800. The 2007 Silverado Classic.

I installed the steering wheel and the new clock spring, but none of the controls work.

Thoughts?

Any dealer that says GM charges for a VCI code is full if it. The dealer is charging that money.

So did you get them to work? I want to add them to my truck as well (NBS 07 Crew) but I don''t know if you need a new wheel or just the controls to mount on the old wheel. I looked on gmpartsdirect.com and the diagram shows the controls as a sep. piece, which means they should be able to add them to my existing wheel. Anyone have ideas on this?

I hope the links work....if not then cut and paste. If that does not work, then just go to gmpartsdirect and search for the new body style silverado.

So I bought the kit for remote start and the dealer programmed it for a grand total of $250 and it came with 2 remotes. And some one said that the dash has the plug for the ''DIC'' all you have to do is replace the panel with the correct one and plug it up. it would seem that the controls can be added to an existing wheel, but what about the wiring harness and this clockspring I have read about? Shouldn''t the current set up support the radio controls? Or are there different harnesses? The catalog said to request a price for the harness. And there is no pic of a clockspring. I guess I need to make friends with the technician that programmed my truck for remote start and pick his brain for answers to life''s mysteries!!!
