I have a 1989 Camaro RS 5.0 I'd like to fix up & show.  I wanted to keep it as original as possible, however, I already have a few performance parts (Edelbrock Intake, Flowmaster, K&N....).  I'm not trying to make it super fast or change the engine size.  I just want the most out of what I have with a few tweaks.  The body & interior are original.  I was thinking about a cowl induction hood (looks good, maybe help it beathe better).   Since they didn't make Camaros w/this type of hood, I'm guessing I'm going custom?  Which is better for show cars - original or custom?  What about value?  I'm just not sure which way to go!!  Any opinions?

Thanks!!

Sound like you are already on your way to a custom car.  An all origional 3rd gen isnt as valuable as a custom one.

For a show car its all a matter of taste. Some people like the heavy modified look, some prefer the clean orignal unaltered look. Myself i like a little of both. Basically what you are going for is something that i would like. Still original and really clean inside and out but just enough pop and uniqueness to make it a stand out. Another thing that never hurts is a nice paint job with TONS of clear on it. Gives the paint depth but if ya stick to a factory paint color its still technically stock which usually wins ya a few points with judges.

At any rate though its all up to you what you want to do with it. Dont worry about what everyone else is going to think because its your baby and the only person that it matters to at the end of the day is you because your the one who has to live with it. So do as you will and if ya get praise for it, then right on.

Thanks for the opinions!  I've been putting a lot of thought into it and have decided - a little of both.  Definitely staying with original color  (Ultra Blue Metallic- doesn't get much prettier!) with LOTS of clear coat. Cowl induction hood with a larger air filter.  Maybe headers- love the deep thunder sound.  Keeping the louvers- don't see them much anymore.  Yeah, they date the car, but it's an '89, not trying to change that fact!
