Looking at K&N's air intake performance kit for my '97 5.0 Silverado, I can't see, other then K&N's
filter, adding any more horsepower or torque then the stock system! The air flow looks to be fine.
If anything what about just leaving the cover off the stock filter housing?

Any comments?

I think the only thing you get is more noise and a air filter you can wash and re-use.

It just smooths out the flow of air vs. the stock set-up.  There is about 100 different uneven surfaces in the stock set up that create turbulent airflow and at high rmps prevents good (even) airflow to the engine. It does help a little with Hp and a good deal with throttle response over using just a high-flow filter.  The best setup for the money is just buying an intake tube and a high-flow filter.  Same gains, less bs. Airaid sells just a tube.

Jcbst12... I looked into Airaid, your right! Less money and same results (I would imagine).

I wouldn't waste my money. These trucks perform well stock, and unless you are changing anything else, keep it stock.

For it to matter you need: headers, catback exhaust, better head flow, more fuel.
