I am having an idle problem.  It was doing fine then suddenly the other day it starting idling very ruff...almost seems like a miss but when reved it does not sputter.  I think it may be drawing air.  There appears to be a fuel leak at the top of my tank but i havent been able to get a good look at it.  I really hate to lift the bed or drop the tank.  It seems to run fine except when idling it struggles.  The check engine light has now come on.  I haven't got the codes pulled yet.  ANY IDEAS WHAT MAY BE WRONG?????

I had the code pulled and it said EGR valve.  I will have to check the fuel pump entry into the tank because of the leak smell.

Thanks for your help.

Yeah you need to change your EGR valve. It shouldn't be too hard. I should be on the back or side of the throttle body.

My S-10 is not TBI.  I have had trouble trying to locate the EGR on the engine.  My Haynes manual does not show one on the CSMI engine.  Does anyone know where it is located?

I have replaced my fuel pump twice and the sending unit once because of rust and it caused the tiniest pinhole and caused a leak. Take the bed off, they will tell you to drop the tank. But go underneath and look, a lot more bolts and risk of breaking any those bolts or straps very rusty. The bed only 8 bolts and you dont' even have to jack the truck up. take the taillights out. you have to watch pulling any of the wires in the back.  Get the bed loose and inch up onto the back tires heavy but i did it myself. Tons of space to work. I broke the two bolts closest to the cab. I just drilled through the bed made new holes bought a couple of stainless nuts and bolts easy fix bed liner covers it. It took me like no more than 2 hours to complete the fuel pump job. I made a mistake though the floater is stuck up in my tank, so constantly reading full tank. So I will be ripping into it again in the spring. make sure you put the floater down in the tank.

Those EGR's get carbon build up in them.

You can take them off and clean them, I have done mine several times.

Actually had a piece of carbon the size of a marble stuck in there the last time.

You should have a CPI engine the EGR is located on the front of the engine just under the intake plenuim.
