If you were to race a 1970 454 Chevelle vs a 1997 Camaro ss in the 1/4 who do you think would win?

Are you kidding me? if you have a 1970 LS6 chevelle 450hp (stock) it will beat the camaro ss (stock) senseless. And remember if you cant transfer that power to the ground your high horsepower numbers mean about as much as a paper weight.

Well Im not sure what the 97 had for power but the SS Camaro would probably win.  Todays technology with todays transmissions (5spd or even 6 spd vs 4 spd of yesterday) it replaces raw power every time.  If you dont believe it look up some 1/4 mi times for the older cars they are almost always in the 14's even with big blocks making 400+ HP.  I watched a show on speed once where they matched a 67 GTO to I wanna say an 04 GTO and the 04 smoked him senseless.  The older ones are still cooler but not quite as quick typically but I'm sure there are exceptions but not to often.

Um, I don't know where you guys learned your physics from but a 454 big block versus a 350. The camaro would take too much time getting up to speed, while the 454 with all that torque would stomp the camaro off the line. You have got to remember that people use naturally asperated 454s in drag races. The camaro would do the quarter mile in probably 14 seconds while the 454 would do it in 12 seconds

Well it turns out to be a tie- we all lose !!  But you take todays technology and it can make a smaller engine perform as well or better than yesterdays big ones every time.  They both ran about 13.7-13.8 stock from the factory, there aint no way the Chevelle is doing 12's.  Thats a bummer, I cant work on todays engines like I can the older ones??  I'd still take the Chevelle.

I don't know you guys, i'd say the chevelle would dominate hands down.  The 454 LS6 was under rated at about 450 hp, when actually it had right at 550hp.  The factory 12 bolt 3.73 posi rear-end with factory 4-link suspension and the bullet proof M-22 rockcrusher 4-speed make for one hellacious of a powerplant.  I SERIOUSLY doubt that a 285hp 350 small block with a weak uni-body chasis and the weak torque-arm, panhard suspension would do well.  Plus that tiny 7.625" rearend with at best 3.42 gearing.  Only good thing is the 6-speed tranny.  BUT your only gonna go through maybe the first 4 gears, so the last two are just dead weight and it really doesn't help too much.  The chevelle did infact run a mid 12 second to 13 second quarter.
