My malibu is in the garage and I can't get it out of park.  I pumped the brakes..I held in the button on the stick...nothing.....Help!!!!!  Someone at the chevy dealer (grrrr) told me it might be the brake switch?...ok...blondefreeze here...WHY would it have anything to do with the brakes.  Thanks in advance!!!

The reason he told you it has something to do with the brakes is because you have to press the brake to shift from park. When you press the brake about a quarter of the way down,  the pedal trips a switch that allows to depress the button and shift from park.

What model Malibu is this and how exactly does the shifter behave?  Does it freeze and not move, or can you move the stick into reverse. Knowing this will indicated whether you have a linkage problem or a transmission problem.
