Please note that your radio is tied into the body control module (BCM) through a GMLAN serial data link.  It is not a simple matter to add accessories or swap out radios as you may affect other systems.  Your best bet is to talk to the service manager/department at your dealership for more information about this.  I've read some horror stories about owners that tried.  I read through the 2006 Cobalt service manual to see if I could give you some help -- there is no information on adding aftermarket accessories.

I agree - Get someone who knows what they are doing.

Some good information for you on cobaltss.net (good site for Cobalt owners). Read the entire thread -- you might find the answers in it.

Use the correct lan bus interface, a few companies make them I mainly use metra's pieces, you should not have any issues as long as you use the correct interface.

exactly as charlie said...use the right parts and you won't have a problem. Plan on spending a few bucks for it.
The radio comes out by taking a plastic pry bar, popping the upper right corner of the knee bolster out, prying out the small trim piece to the left of the radio. Open the glove box, and remove the trim from about the radio. Then pry up the trim around the radio. there should be 4 7mm bolts holding the radio in
