After 8 years of not owning a pickup I finally found one that I wanted..  Its a 1988 C1500 with a 454..  The  guy I bought it from said the motor came out of a 1988 C3500..  I know the timing should be set at 4*BTC but the truck won't run at this setting..  Backfires through the TBI..  I set it back to where it was and this is at the highest mark..  Can't read it but I'm guessing the mark is around 12*..  What would cause this to happen??  I changed the plugs, distrubutor cap and rotor..  The only thing that I didn't change was the plug wires..  All looked fine but I did have to replace two because they were burnt from the headers but this didn't change anything..  The truck also feels like its not getting enough gas..  I would like to put a carb. and intake on..  What would ya'll suggest in this department..  The truck also has headers w/out cats and flowmaster mufflers with dual 3" pipes from the headers out..  I'm not looking for a race truck but I would like for it to run right..  Thanks for the help...
