I have a 93 Suburban 2500 7.4L. For the past few months the 4wd low will engage the low gears to the rear wheels but does not engage the front wheels, which gives me 2wd low range. The 4hi works just fine every time I use it though. The indicator light also comes on at the appropriate times for both hi and low 4wd. Here is a list of the symptoms I've encountered while driving: - 4-Low sometimes pops out of gear
- 4-Low can be kept in gear by pushing on selection lever in cab
- 4-High does not pop out of gear
- 4-Low does give low range gears but...
- 4-Low SOMETIMES is not in 4 wheel drive (2 wheel drive low)
- 4-Low Indicator light works fine
- 4-High indicator light works fine
- 4-High works normally without problem
Can anybody tell me why this is happening and possibly a part number so I can fix this? Thanks!

is it manual shift....maybe its not going back all the way linkage?.....or is it push button?........are you stopped or going VERY slow and no toruque to the engine when shifting to 4 low......only other would be a sensor....but being 93 dont know, cant remeber that far back.....

It is manual sift. When we shift into 4 low the truck is always in neutral and stopped. 4high doesn't care whether we're moving, stopped, or in or out of neutral. I'm not totally sure about this, but I do believe there are two 4 wheel drive actuators, one on the front diff and one on the transfer case. Both must be working at least most of the time because we get 4 wheel drive high and we get the low gearing but not the front wheels. I wish I knew more about the 4wd system on these.
