What a day I have had!!

newcster68 -> What a day I have had!! (10/22/2007 5:45:57 PM)

Ok, let me start by saying that I rarely have issues when it comes to taking care of my 2000 Chevrolet Impala.

Today has been one of those days....

Let me explain...

A couple days ago my "Check Engine Light" came on so I drove immediately to Advanced Auto Parts and had the run a diagnostic to find which code would pop up.

They plugged up the handheld and then went back into the store and printed out the code that showed up. They handed me the paper and told me that it was my transmission which came up with "P1870 manufacurer contrl. transmission".

So, I did some online research and found out that I may not need to replace the tranny that I may only need to replace the control valve body.

Today I went by my Chevrolet Service Department and showed the the Paper that listed the code and the Service Bulletin from GM pertaining to this code. The technician told me that they would have to open the pan and check the tranny fluid for metal or aluminum shavings to determin if I need to replace the tranny or only to replace the valve body. To do this check he said would cost me $89.00 and then from there they would tell me how much to repair w/ labor.

Dropped the car off and went back home. Waited about 3 1/2 hours and the tech finally called me back. He said they didnt drop the pan and check the fluid because they did another diagnostic test and said that the P1870 code never came up but a P0420 did show (Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold).

I was confused because Advanced Auto Parts ran the first test and it showed P1870????
The tech said they did test drive the car and did notice a slight slipping in gear 1 & 2 but never said what they thought would be needed to be done. They did tell me I needed a new Catalytic Converter though.

They told me they would charge me about $800.00 for fix and labor. I said no because I was pretty sure that I can find the part elsewhere and have it put on cheaper. I did in fact which I purchased the part online for $218.00 and having a service station put it on for $75.

Next,

Since I didn't spend as much as I thought I would I asked the tech about the Intermediate Steering shaft and the known problems and that I heard about the lube kit. He acknowledged that but said that GM finally came out with a new shaft that finally works and said they could replace minen for $220.00 for the part / labor. I was happy and said go ahead. He said the car would be ready in an hour.

Went to dinner and came back and the idiot then said, "Im sorry I told you wrong that only the tahoe and some other vehicle has the new steering shaft and that there was only the lube kit available for my impala. I told him, "I TOLD YOU SO", but they never listen to me. I told him go ahead and do it.

Came back an hour later and couldnt find the tech, so I went to pay for the work and the cashier could not find the paper work. After another 20 minutes they finally find the paperwork.

To my shock, they wanted to charge me $201.00 for what?

They didnt drop the pan to check the tranny fluid. they only ran a diagnostic test.

They added the lube kit which I know only takes about 30 minutes to put in.

So, they shouldnt have charged me the $89 to check my car cause they didnt do it except the diagnostic which takes, what? 2 minutes.

then they said it took 1.5 hours labor work for the lube job.

I HATE DEALERSHIPS.. BIG SCAMMERS
