The 8.1 is 496 cid I believe. I am currantly running a 03 F350 v10 4 sp auto. and getting 12.5/15 empty. I know a lot of people like the dls but I am a gas engine man all the way.

Thats a fact big CID gas engines are thirsty, and with 3.00 a gal gas you have to learn to keep your foot out of them( takes away some of the fun). But when you take out the initial cost, maint. and fuel (dsl not as cheap as it used to be). the difference is not that great. I am NOT trying to start a gas dsl war it's just big CID gas engines are my choice. while I have not driven a 6.6 I have spent time behind a CTD and PSD and I am one who can not get past the turbo lag. Most of my work is farm related so I don't do long trips under load but I do haul/tow 10K lbs plus and need the grunt to make her go.

yeah the 8.1 is a 496 block GM switche dthe engines all aorund in 99-00 save for the old bodys and i think suburban and tahoes. weird set of years. i have a 1995 454 and get 13 tops, my dad has a 1999 454 vortec and so he get around 14.....keep in mind that there ford boy has a 6.8L V10.......youd be a WHOLE 1.3L larger thats gonna be some gas....personally with how the newer diesels perform compared to gas id go with a diesel but if you go USED and older go for gas just my thoughts

ford is 600 with a 6.0L dodge is 610 with a 5.9L and GM has a 650 with a 6.6L hoprses on the gm are 360 i unno about ford and dodge horses.....the mileage is right ive heard plenty of people on the ford diesels getting like that and on the dodges similiar and gm i think a lil less cause your getting more liters but then again thats more power right?

My brother in law has one like that. A 2005 K2500 8.1, allison, 3.73 gears, extended cab, long bed. We've compaired mileags because I have a 1997 K2500 454, manual 5 speed, 4.11 gears, extended cab, long bed. I have gotten as high as 14.2 on my 454. He has gotten 11 for a high, and he gets 7 and 8 pulling a 30 foot 5th wheel camper. Hope that helps
