whats the difference between an engine with 4 cylinder and one that has 6 cylinder?

does one get better gas millage or power?

i realize that a 4 cyl. will be easier for the mechanics to work on should there comes a time when the engine is having problems

right now I'm looking at 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt LT Sedan and a 2005 Chevrolet Impala LS

the Cobalt has the 4 Cyl and the impala has the 6 Cly

I'm just trying to decide which is the better engine to have

Well. With Chevrolet, the V6s are gonna be a lot stronger that the V4s.  I have the 4.3L which is the same cylinder displacement as the 5.7L V8.  So it has V8-like torque, but doesn't wind out. The 2.2L found in Sonomas are weak.

With Cobalts, you have three base models to pick from. LS, SS, and SS(no S.C.)  The supercharged SS is gonna have a lot of get-up-and-go with decent mileage.  the other engines are very weak and pretty good on gas.
The Impala can come with 3 different engines. 3.5L LZE V6, 3.9L LZ9 V6, or 5.3L LS4 V8. The 3.5L is quite weak but good on gas, the 3.9L is gonna be powerful and economical, the 5.3L is gonna be all power with decent mileage.
