Ok so I have a new 2007 Silverado v8 5.3 crew cab 2wd. with active fuel management.

My father in law has suggested using Mobil1 oil and ACDelco filter. I dont question the oil choice. However shouldnt I use I higher quality filter. He claims that I much use ACDelco filter not to mess up my warrenty. Any thoughts?

You do not have to run an AC filter to keep your warranty in tact. Totally wrong. AC filters are good filters up to around 5K so use them if you want but you do not have to use them.

NH is correct, you do not have to use an AC Delco filter to keep your new car warranty in effect.

The AC Delco PF48 filter that your truck uses will perform well for the entire oil change interval as specified by your Engine Oil Life Monitor System.
Many people believe that if you use synthetic motor oil that you should also use a synthetic media type filter such as the $10 Mobil-1 unit, this is not the case.
Due to your engines design and the current quality of motor oils it is extremely rare to see an engine failure as the result of poor filtration.
At the moment there are not many aftermarket companies producing an oil filter that will cross reference to the AC Delco PF48 so your choices are going to be somewhat limited.

as per the commerce department, you are NOT required to use dealer parts (likr filters) to stay in warranty. as long as the product meets the minimum requirements set by the manufacter, you are ok.

btw, WIX are great!

also use NAPA gold filters.

another note, you will not lose warruntee work unless the part that you added is proven to have caused the problem.
