dual carb question.

lockbuster -> dual carb question. (10/10/2007 8:46:09 PM)

I have dual 390 holleys on a TRX-1 and at an idle it runs too rich. With my single carb t-ram top I individually tuned each carb to run perfect. (not rich) put them both on it idles rich and will load up at an idle.   It runs great otherwise.
I rebuilt both carbs and float levels are perfect. I also had an Edlebrock 600 on it and it ran perfect. I think that when the amount of fuel that 1 carb uses at an idle is doubled when I put both carbs on. it is to much. It only appears to me running rich at idle. This is a mild motor .494 lift and .288 duration, 9.5 to 1, 3000 stall, 700r4, 3.73 gear,100 shot of Nitrous. (havent hit it yet till I get carbs lined out) This car runs great but is just alittle too smelly at an idle. comments or suggestions?
I really appreciate your help.

I would put smaller jets in both carbs... If it ran perfectally with each carb individually then its probably rich with both.  Ive never messed with dual carbs but that would be my thinking.  Now each one only has to provide half the gas to maintain the perfect Air/Fuel Ratio.

Do yourself a favor buddy- go to one carb.  That motor will never need more than a Holley 650 double pumper which is so easy to work on.  That is what I have on my Nova and I am so glad I switched from an Edlebrock.  My dad is battling dual carbs right now just like everyone else I know with duals, it is a constant adjustment nightmare.
