From what I gather it doesn't send max torque to the wheels in order to extend the life of the drivetrain. Someone a little more mechanically inclined could probably shed some more insight onto this. As Jason said; the Torque Management System ease’s the power build-up compared to the older Tahoe's, the extra 300lbs+ of weight that the new 2007 sports also dampens a few of those ponies and then there's the fact that most people’s new 2007 Tahoe's aren't all that well broken-in yet, my older vehicles ran really well after they had 30K + miles on them. I just returned from a round trip to San Diego (1,500 miles) and my 07 Tahoe ran perfectly and is a much nicer ride than any of my previous Tahoe’s (this is my 6th Tahoe), I also am able to travel about 60 miles further on a tank than in my last Tahoe (a 2005 model). The 4.10 gear ratio lightens the load on the engine allowing for AFM to engage a little more often, also the 5.3L Vortec is designed to operate efficiently at higher and across a broader RPM range than previous GM V8 power plants.
