I think the reason you think there isn't as much power is due to the torque management system. From what I gather it doesn't send max torque to the wheels in order to extend the life of the drivetrain. Someone a little more mechanically inclined could probably shed some more insight onto this.

Seat of the pants feeling does not support the extra horsepower figures but the power is there.
As Jason said; the Torque Management System ease’s the power build-up compared to the older Tahoe's, the extra 300lbs+ of weight that the new 2007 sports also dampens a few of those ponies and then there's the fact that most people’s new 2007 Tahoe's aren't all that well broken-in yet, my older vehicles ran really well after they had 30K + miles on them.
I just returned from a round trip to San Diego (1,500 miles) and my 07 Tahoe ran perfectly and is a much nicer ride than any of my previous Tahoe’s (this is my 6th Tahoe), I also am able to travel about 60 miles further on a tank than in my last Tahoe (a 2005 model).

fuel milage difference

15mpg @ 12,000 miles per year = 800 gallons x $2.75 per gallon? = $2200.00

17mpg @ 12,000 miles per yaer = 705 gallons x $2.75 per gallon? = $1938.75

difference = $261.25

thats only 12,000 miles per year, the more you drive the greater the difference!

thats also at two miles per gallon difference, I am not sure that the difference from 3.73's to 4.10's is that much.

anyway when you are buying a $50,000+ vehicle to drive everyday $261.25 per year is really a drop in the bucket don't ya think?

In the 2007 Tahoe the 4.10 actually gets slightly (very slightly) better fuel economy then the 3.73 in most every driving condition.

ZX- Is this because the engine has to work less?

Correct.
The 4.10 gear ratio lightens the load on the engine allowing for AFM to engage a little more often, also the 5.3L Vortec is designed to operate efficiently at higher and across a broader RPM range than previous GM V8 power plants.
