I am looking to replace teh factory stereo system in my truck, does anyone have any resorces on taking the dash apart to get to everything? If no one knows of any I'm going to take pics as I work and hopefully that can help someone else. I just want to make sure I'm taking things apart in the right order.

if you look online or have a manual for the truck it should give you step by step on how to do the job right.

if i remember correctly, the '96 needs no tools to get the radio out, just put the E-brake on(so it dont roll away), put the truck in 1st gear, tilt the wheel down all the way, gently pull on the cover for the dash, it just pops off, unsnap the headlight switch, set the cover to the side, unsnap the radio and unplug. you may have to pry gently to get the cover off the dash, thouse little clips can be tricky sometimes. make sure you keep track of all those clips some of them could get stuck in the dash, they need to be put back on the cover before reinstalation.

Also you will need the mounting kit if you are putting in a single DIMM radio, get the good kit that comes with the wiring addapter, dont cut the plug off of the factory harrness.

The dash bezel around the stereo, along with the rest of the dash, pops off. Just pull. You will need to put the tilt steering wheel down to the lowest position. The headlight switch will come off with the bezel, so you need to disconnect the wiring connector on the back of the switch, usually have to do it with the bezel hanging loose. The stereo has two clips, one on each side that let the stereo pop right out. No tools needed. If you have the theft lock enabled on the factory stereo, be sure to disabe it or write the number on the stereo unit for the next person.

Curiuos if when you pulled the radio there is any possible way to get to the fan switch for the climate control, should be just below the stereo.
My fan doesn't work from low to medium but does work on high, i was told the high is actually a boosted state for the a/c and defrost.
