Hello All,

This is my 1st Chevy. I have a 2005 All Wheel Drive Tahoe LT with AutoRide. I am thinking of adding a cold air intake and possible throttle body spacer to increase mpg and horsepower. I didn't want to change the exhaust yet.

I'm hearing mixed thoughts on the throttle body spacer though. What are your thoughts on these mods?

Thanks!

Everyone has an opinion on these. The people I have talked with over years on the phone in customer service have not been impressed and most sent them back. If you get a money back guarantee and you believe their guarantee, then try it. They seem to work better on the older vehicles with a throttle body on top of the intake manifold. I work at Superchips so I guess I would have to say I am biased, but a good computer re-programmer would do more things than a  throttle body and give you more bang for your buck. Air intakes seem to work best if the factory ones you are replacing look restricted. Make sure you get a non-metal air intake because the metal ones can get heat soak and increase air intake temperature a lot, which can cause you to lose power once you warm up under hood temperatures. We saw it on the dyno one time where the air intake made a bunch more power with the hood open and when you closed the hood the power increases turned into power losses even less than stock! Just look at the factory air box and if it looks restrictive it probably is. If the air intake you buy picks up the air from a cooler place than stock, that is a plus. Make sure it is not picking up air from a wet or dirty area (like a wheel well). One of the Ford diesel trucks had the air intake coming from the wheel well area and they had problems enough so they had a recall and replaced the whole air intake.
