Airhead -> Problem with ECT sensor help! (4/20/2005 10:11:32 PM)

Hello,
I have a 1989 Chevy Celebrity wagon. I know I know. But what the heck. I have been having problems with it starting from being left over night. Cold. So I decided to check the codes. It came back with 2 of them 15 + 21. I fixed code 21. That was the TPS. I replace that. Now on to the ECT. I replaced that sensor twice. But the code 15 keeps coming up. And thats the ECT. The ECT is Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Can someone tell me what the heck could it be. I mean 2 sensors and still the same problem. The code 15 says -- sensor indicates low temperature, or ECT open. I can't picture that I bought 2 brand new ECT's that where bad. But? I'm just lost here.

Thank you..

well, when you first start it, it SHOULD be cold...when you say youre having problems starting it, what exactly does it do?? just crank and crank?

It just cranks on and on for about 5 minutes. It spits and sputters and fires. Like its not getting the fuel it needs. And I already did a fuel pressure test so thats fine. The ECT from my understanding tells the computer when its cold to increase the amount of fuel and when its hot it gives it less. This is strait from a chevy tech.

hmmm....than i would try that..but it youre wrong, couldnt it also be the ECU as well?

Are you talking about the computer itself??

yes..the ECU is the engine control unit...some brands call it a PCM, for power control module..there are lots of names for them...i think GM uses "ECU"
