Will installing 400 sb connecting rods in a 350 sb increase horsepower close to 383 stroker? 400sb rods are shorter than 350 rods, or will the block still have to be bored out?

I think the rods in a 400 are 5.7 inches long just like the 350. The crank is longer in the 400 and has a larger journal than the 350. Im not sure about the size of the big end of the rod on the 400. There is a kit you can buy from speedway motors that will allow you to use a 350 crank in a 400 block that should put you around 377 cubic inches. As far as cams go are the heads set up for screw in type rocker arm studs? If not I wouldnt try to install anything over stock maybe an RV type but the time wouldnt be worth the swap in my opinion. Another thing is what do want to do with the motor? It all depends on what you plan on using it for as far as what cam to select. For decent power and drivability I would probably say go with the Edlebrock RPM cam from my experiance they seem to make good power all around with out loosing power on the bottom end. Another good cam choice is the COMP CAMS magnum cam with 280* duration and 0.480 lift. I have heard this a good cam to really wake up a stock to mild small block.

the rods in a 400 are not 5.7" - They are 5.565"... You need to just get a set of 400 rods, a 400 crankshaft/flywheel/balancer, and have the mains turned down to fit in your 350. Have your block bored/honed and get some stroker pistons and you will be set.

Stay away from 400 rods. If anything go with a 383 stroker. The 400"s are a low end low rpm motor.

400 rods are NOT the way to go. they're shorter than 350 rods which are 5.7 inches. if you're looking for longer rods, there are plenty of 6.0 inch rod & piston combos available for the 350. howver, you can't just swap out rods without the pistons to match. you're not going to see the benefits of the longer rods until you start making serious horsepower in a race motor setup. I don't think its the magic bullet you're looking for. spend the money elsewhere. you'll be much happier.
