I have 1996 Tahoe and need info on replacing the multi function switch, dimmer switch that has cruise , headlight dimmer switch and so forth.  What do I need to do to replace?  Know I need to disable the air bag?  Any help appreciated.  I do have the replacemnet switch.  Any help is appreciated and info.  Thank you all.   Dave

Your switch mounts on top of the steering column NOT under the steering wheel.
Theres a rod that runs along side of the column to the switch which is on the upper left hand side. I've found it easier on most models to drop the steering column down against the seat to change it. Remove the lower dash cover below the wheel and then the 2 nuts holding the column up. Sometimes its easier to also remove the 4 bolts that hold the U bracket that holds the column up to access the switch.
Drop the column slowly and watch for the shift indicator cable(if yours has one) on the right side. the switch is held in by 2 screws and needs to be adjusted prior to putting the column back up.
