87 iroc will not start

swoosh5_98 -> 87 iroc will not start (9/2/2007 1:31:43 AM)

i have a 87 iroc z28 with 305 tbi. Engine turns over but will not hit a lick. I'm getting fire and fuel ( but not sure if its enough). I replaced fuel filter, fuel pumps hums for a couple of seconds when i turn the key on. Engine turns over just fine. The car ran great before i covered it up and it sat for about a year.When you check the fuel pressure in the fuel rail should it shoot out or just flow out. I had a similar problem with a 4.3L V6 and it was the control module in the distributer. Does my iroc have something similar to that which tells the injectors to fire. Open to all comments and sugestions. thanks[;)]

Check connections going to the coil for corrosion & if anything has came apart. Maybe the coil itself has gone bad over that period of time sitting also. Just check over everything electrical. Does it have vaccum advance timing? because after a while of sitting sometimes vaccum advanced timing parts in the distributor turn to crap from rust or whatever n starting it can be a pain. As for pressure in the fuel system it should shoot out unless theres a leak.

I'm getting plenty of fire through all plug wires. The distributor is good as can be inside (no rust). The coil connections are fine and so are the connections to my injectors. My injectors are getting power but they are not spraying gas.

I had a typing error on my first post. My iroc has a 305 tpi not a tbi. What would kept my injectors from firing. I can get it to crank and run just until it burns the gas i shove down its throat.

The power to your injectors is probably not gettin there so it wont open n spray fuel when needed. Get a volt meter n measure how much electricity there is even flowing through the wires. If not thing follow the wires back to where the begin so get a wire schematic n do some investigating.

I know i used a test light on each injector and they have power but u think they may not be getting enough.

Yea they arent gettin enough juice then.

Get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure at the fuel rail.  Unless your ECU is fried, I doubt that all the injectors would not be getting enuf current to fire.  If I remember right, pressure should be about 40-45 psi.  Would look it up but sold my service manuals with the car.

Both of my '87 IROCs were 350s.  Didn't think they went back to 305s until later like around 1990.
