hi i'm new here and i have a question for anyone who can help.

i've had my '07 cobalt ls sedan for nearly two months now. lately as i've been driving around town or whatever i've noticed a lot of newer cars missing a brake light. i tend to notice a lot of little things like that so out of random curiosity i took a look at mine. i had my sister step on my brake pedal with the car off only to have the third light working. i turned the lights on and repeated the process and again just the one light. so at this point i was a bit frustrated so i checked all the lights, which were fine and was about to take my car to my step-dad at work [he's a mechanic] when i decided to check the lights with the car on, all brake lights worked just fine. as silly as it may sound, is this some new thing with cars to only have one brake light when the car is turned off? i went from a '92 escort to an '07 cobalt so i'm not too familiar with the new stuff just yet. any input will be appreciated, thanks!!
