The fuel guage reads 3/4 full when tank is near empty. Seems to read correct when totally full. any ideas where the problem is? Thanks.

Either you have a defective gage unit, or the baffle inside the tank has come loose and is keeping the float from going all the way down. You'll need to remove the tank to check it out. With the tank on the floor, remove the sender unit and look down inside the tank with a strong light. Take a long screwdriver or socket extension and push on the baffle and see if it moves around. If it's plastic, you can re-secure it by moving it back onto the locating studs and pressing push-nuts down onto the studs. To check the electrical part of the gage, find the wire that goes to the dash unit (it will be either pink or purple) and connect it to ground with the ignition "on." The dash unit should read "empty." With it unplugged, it should go way past "full." Ideally, if you can get a variable resistor, it should move smoothly between "empty" at 0 ohms to "full" at 90 or 100 ohms. HTH. Good luck and God bless.

You could have a bad sending unit too. If you take the tank down take the sending unit out and hook it up. Have someone turn the key on and move the float up and down while they tell you what the guage reads.
