I have a 93 350 Silverado and temp gauge is pegged and the "check gauges" light is on. The truck has been sitting for a few months waiting for a new transmission. After that was replaced i noticed the temp gauge, but i wouldn't think they would be related. At any rate, I threw a new t-stat in before i realized it was probably electrical. Gauge is pegged whether the truck is hot or not. There is a sensor next to the t-stat (yellow and black wire pair), i disconnected that and the truck quit, don't think it had any affect on the temp gauge. Truck starts and runs fine and does not appear to get any hotter than normal. Is there anything else i can test? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
