I am thinking of buying a truck and found a 2001 CHEVROLET C1500 SILVERADO 4.8L V8 MFI / REAR WHEEL DRIVE with 32,000 miles on it. The guy at the dealership said it was used by a cement company and when they bought it from the auction it had some cement on it so they scrapped it off and repainted it but the paint job is a crappy ( i dont care i just want a strong motor for a work truck ) so what should i look for when i get there tommorrow to test drive it?

thats a really good price in my book for the age of it and being a v8, make sure the body and interior havent been banged to hell and back. if there are only small dents and not huge impacts it should be fine, the paintjob will probly only last a year maybe two, it seems to me that they want to get rid of it asap for that reason. the engine, i cant say much about, 32k means the truck averaged around 5-6k miles a year which isnt killer at all. I mean i put 21K on mine in less that 17 months

Sounds great to me, if I was looking for a new truck, I'd pick it up. Who cares about a bad paint job here or there?

Take care and God bless,

Sounds good, the 4.8 will give you good gas milage and still have that v8 power, plus you'll be saving alot of money where you can put to a better paint job...

i would make sure i take the truck out and run it hard i work in a chemical plant and we have work trucks that have similar mileage that are not worth the gas you put in them work trucks are usually worked pretty hard for instance a truck driven 20,000 miles in a plant would be equal to 200,000 on the road because you never drive them far at all and they are constantly being started. just m .02

I would tend to agree with bigbear, if it was only doing short trips and running for a short amount of time it is harder on the engine and drivetrain and won't last as long. It sounds good but it may not be. That may be why they want so little for it. I also think a 4.8 for a work truck is a weak motor, but then again I like some power and I pull 3 1/2 ton pickups with the one I have now. (96 Silverado 350 Vortec) It pulls good in town taking off slow, but on the highway it dosen't like it to much. I think I have 3.08 gears though.
Not the best for pulling. I will take that back on the drive train on the condition that it is not used to pull anything. If you put to much weight behind that I wouldn't get it, but if you know you aren't going to pull anything it would be good.
