I need to replace the high pressure power steering hose on my 1997 suburban. The dealership wanted to charge $350 ($100 for the part and $250 for the labor) . Is this a difficult job to do myself? I can get the part for $30.

The job is messy but not overly complicated. Put a pan under the truck to catch any spillage. Auto-Zone has online repair manuals if you need help.

I replaced the hose on a 94 Suburban once. The biggest problem I had was geting the fitting loose from the back of the pump, it was frozen. I finally cut the line off with my hacksaw blade to get working room. It took me about 2 hours to get the old on off and 10 minutes to put the new one on.
