Hi all, I own a 1996 chevy s-10 with the 4.3L v6 engine and right now running the stock exhasut. Well I want a little better sound out of it and was looking at this cat back systeme that I found from summit. Now I know its not a v8 by all means but was wondering if I would get a good low tone sound out of it. When my truck idels it sounds nice and quite but I like that hollow sound. Let me know if anyone can give me some input on what they think of performance systems.

Here is the link. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WLK%2D17347&N=700+4294908216+4294907469+4294924746+4294923429+4294840129+4294922451+4294905933+4294906186+4294907048+4294903640+4294900492+115&autoview=sku

Well I ended up just going with the 40 seriers flowmaster and really happy with the turn out. Got it all welded up today and like the hollow sound. I am really pleased with the sound result that I got for just having the 4.3L v6. Feels like I got a little more torq off the line but that might just be me thinking that. Since no one gave me any input on the dynomax I just tried this a like it. Thanks for looking at post and thought I would give you an update.

fine choice,  I considered the flowmasters, but got a little better perf rating on the magnaflow,  when I was using my p/u to pull my boat.    The flowmasters did have a better "note" offering, was my understanding.

Also,  I am assuming you opened the cat back pipes up to a full 2 1/2" at a minimum?   that is always good for some extra sound and minor breathing improvements.

Yep that is correct on opening the cat back. Then welded all pipes and sounds really good I think for just being a 4.3L. You all know its got that hollow sound.

Indeed,    you can do header upgrade for more pipe and sound   for a few $100     but then the decibles start creeping past "comfort level"   LOL

LOL!!! Yeah I think I will stay where I am for now. However I want upgrade to a cold air intake. Although I don't want to pay 200 bucks for a K an N full cold air system. Not only that but even where the air intake is now its right behind the front driver side head light. So I know it not getting very much air as it is. Have you ever done a custom cold air intake where you cut something away to get some freash air. Or any mods I guess you could say. Let me know. LOL maybe I will just put a air filter right off the intake itself up by the fuel injector and cut a whole in the hood.

I have seen both of those mods,  not on an S10 specifically,   all my vehicles, I usually just bought bolt on air intakes, paying the extra dough,   on my last s10 truck,  (which my nephew has now)  I just put standard k&N filters.exhaust   no intake/header mods.

Well just bought a k and n today and put it in. Noticed a little bit of more power when the temp cooled off a little here in michigan at night. Bought the same though in hot sunny days. I and my friend that has been helping me with all this fun performance stuff took out the tiny screen holes that was just in front of the mass air flow sensor. Big restriction with that thing in there that is from the factory. Its suppose to atomsize the air but just restricks. So we took that out and noticed a very big improvement. Much more power in the mid range now. And better accl. when driving down the road. I will send you some pics when we put in the custom cold air intake.

cool,   just make sure you check debris/clogs if you removed the screen.  looking forward to see your custom mod in place

with all those power upgrades, you should give my ML a run   ( not....hahahaha )    definetly good improvement from what you started with though...
