fredster -> RE: hwy RPM's (11/24/2006 9:21:22 PM)

Correct me if I'm wrong but Malibu has a 4-speed automatic and the Equinox has a 5-speed automatic. The gear ratios are different, and the final drive ratios are different, so the odds of having the same RPM's with these two vehicles at the same speed is probably not going to happen. Even if the overall drive ratio was the same, different tire sizes (height) would give one vehicle more speed at a given RPM than the other. I do think they set up the Eq's engine to run more RPM's due to the SUV body and more weight, it needs RPM's. The Malibu, on the other hand, has better areo and less weight and can run a higher final drive ratio which typically will reduce RPM's and increase fuel economy.
