I have a 04 S/C Monte Carlo.  Just recently it began reaching 5000 rpm and normally it would shift at 2500 or so. Would anyone be able to tell me the cause of this and/or how to fix it. My car just reached 66xxx miles. Could it be my filter or maybe my transmission is going out.
I just had the transmission oil changed hoping it would help the problem, but no such luck.
If someone can direct me in the right direction, I don't want to go to a place that will take advantage of me for being a girl.
I would really appreciate any and all the help I can get.

I think Autozone & Oreilly auto parts have a generic code reader. You might have some codes since it isnt shifting when its supposed to. Otherwords take the car to the dealer for their diagnostic computer. Its not too cheap but Chevrolet's will read what it is specifically. It could be a shift solenoid thats bad now, so just call the service department n see how much it actually is for a diagnostic then go from there. good luck
